TMJ Bimmers, Euro Car Care

We’d like to introduce TMJ Bimmers, a European Automotive Repair company that specifically caters to new and classic Mercedes, BMWs, Porsche, and Minis. They offer a wide range of services, from regular repairs to highly specialized repairs and services for new and classic cars. Each technician at TMJ Bimmers loves what they do, and offers the utmost attention to detail for every customer. To learn more about this amazing automotive company, check out our interview with Todd Farley, the company’s owner.

Todd, what is your background and work experience in the automotive industry?

I’ve always been a car nut. My interest in anything and everything with wheels began at about three years old. My 20-year career in the automotive industry began in 1993 at a junkyard doing entry-level machine shop work and parts delivery. I then moved onto new auto part sales & commercial parts sales. This experience taught me the importance of the right part from the right source. I then got to see another side of the industry as a Snap-On Tools Dealer. I began working with plenty of shops in Houston and quickly recognized how the automotive service industry could be improved; by singularly focusing on one make of vehicle. For me that quickly became BMWs and in 2010 I set out to begin my own business doing what I loved. I took my idea and opened TMJ Bimmers in 2010, focusing on just a few specific vehicles makes — BMW, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz & Mini — to provide the highest level of care possible.

Why should a customer choose TMJ Bimmers?

Customers should give us a try first because we are a specialty BMW shop that caters to the wide range of BMW Houston owners with the latest models as well as the classic models. My team and I have built this business slowly and steadily on 5-start reviews with a focus on delivering quality work and creating raving fans in and around the Houston Metroplex. What sets us apart most distinctly from other independent shops is the fact that a visit to TMJ Bimmers starts with a customized treatment plan based on each customer’s current use of and eventual plan for their vehicles. If you plan to drive it until the wheels fall off, we will advise you on repairs and services necessary for your intended use. Or, if you’re planning to only drive it for weekend getaways, or you plan to sell it soon — we’ll work together to ensure your vehicle’s plan is aligned with your goals & we’ll advise you accordingly! Our focus at TMJ Bimmers isn’t to make as much money as possible or sell customers something they don’t need. Our focus is to deliver a quality trusted experience and to make all of our customers feel they’ve been treated like family.

What made you want to start this business?

When I was first starting, I wanted to improve the automotive service and repair experience since automotive shops often got a bad reputation for ripping people off! In my previous roles, I quickly noticed the automotive industry was badly in need of and could benefit greatly from specialization! By laser focusing on one make of vehicle and offering this expertise to your customers — I was able to quickly turn that false impression on its head! For me, that focus became BMWs (and now Mercedes, Mini Coopers, and Porches).

Specialization in the automotive industry is a very good thing for consumers. It wasn’t long ago that your average automotive repair shop was ready, willing, and able to work on all makes and models of cars. But, nowadays the automotive field has evolved drastically. Newer engines with turbo and superchargers and their idiosyncrasies can and do vary with each manufacturer, as well as suspensions with their pneumatic controls, and even new complex airbag and entertainment systems have expanded the field well out of the reach of even the best Master Techs! The industry is too wide and vast for anyone shop to be qualified to repair all makes or models. The key is to find someone that knows your make of vehicle intimately and to develop a long-lasting relationship with them… and that’s exactly how we have been able to build our brand equity over the last ten years!

What are the advantages that come with owning your business?

The biggest advantage of owning my own business is that I get to do what I love every day! I also love developing those long-lasting and trusted relationships with my customers! Doing that day in and day out — and then having that validated by the consistent stream of 5-star reviews — make the work truly fulfilling.

Where do you see yourself in the following years?

I’d like to meet & exceed sales goals regardless of the strain Covid is putting on all independent businesses these days. In the next year, I am planning to purchase and expand my current business and am looking for another site for a second location within the next 3 years.

What is your mission statement?

Our mission at TMJ Bimmers is to provide a customized honest and accurate treatment plan for service & repair on our customers’ vehicles build to suit their individual needs and their budget. Our goal is that all customers leave TMJ Bimmers feeling like they’ve been treated like family.

What are the biggest issues for running TMJ Bimmers?

From a brand-building perspective, I am most proud of the fact that TMJ Bimmers is known as a custom and specialty BMW shop because as German car experts and true BMW enthusiasts, we have the confidence to perform custom work that other shops would be afraid to touch. However, one of the challenges of running your own business is learning that fun stuff doesn’t always pay the bills! That was a big issue for me. These specialty jobs are what established our brand with our initial customer base — the custom build-outs, motor swaps. And, while this type of work establishes you among the true enthusiasts, it also requires a lot of research/trial and error/dedication and attention to detail — which can take away from the day-to-day work coming in the door.

Do you have employees? How is your team structured?

I am the owner and am there daily and very hands-on with my business. We also have 3 technicians, a porter, and a Front End Manager / Service Advisor.
