Peer Hopes

Mental Health Service Houston

We’d like to introduce Peer Hopes, a mental health service that strives to help their clients with life hacks, coping skills, and promoting advocacy of self. Their mission is to provide trustworthy and skilled assistance to individuals who are in need of professional peer support, as a means to improve their quality of life. Each one of Peer Hopes’ specialists support recovery, and want the very best for their clients. To learn more about Peer Hopes, check out our interview with Lesley Hopper, a Certified Peer Specialist and the company’s founder.

Lesley, what is your background?

I am a certified peer specialist in Texas and help those with mental health issues from anxiety to depression through learning coping skills and being there to talk to.

Why should a customer choose Peer Hopes?

Customers should come to us first because of two reasons. 1. we offer a free consultation and 2. the most important thing is that we come with lived experience and can inspire hope for recovery as we have achieved and maintained it ourselves.

What made you want to start this business?

I started this business as I saw a need to relate to those that you get mental health from.  Counselors and doctors can not always share that they have been there, whereas our code of ethics state we are to share our story and help others through it find hope.  Peer Hopes is not just a place to relate, but a place to find hope and someone that believes in you till you can and then some!

What are some advantages that come with owning your business?

Owning my own business means that I can set the cost, I can run specials, and I can choose what happens.  It has good days and bad, but I decide what happens and how I look at it.

Where do you see your business in the next year? What about the next 10 years?

In the next year, I know that we will grow for online support. In five years, I plan to have not just online support but a physical location. And through it all, to be the place thought of for support.

What is your mission statement?

As a peer specialist to others with a mental health diagnosis our aim is to provide skilled and trustworthy support delivered with skill, integrity, focus, authenticity, warmth and professionalism, and have some creative fun along the way supporting each person’s spirit and practice goals.

What are the biggest issues for running this business?

The biggest issue has been getting out there and finding people who come for services. Because I am new, the funds are not always there for marketing.

How is your team structured?

The team consists of myself and seven contract employees. Each one of us comes with a niche or specialty in an area that allows us to be there for each person.

Where can people learn more about Peer Hopes?

People can find us at www.peerhopes.com or also watch the Roundtable with Sharifah Hardie as I am a regular on her show.
