To learn more about this amazing counseling company, check out our interview with the Houston location’s Executive Director, Josh Berger.

Josh, what is your background?

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC). I have worked with at-risk teenagers and family crises since 2008. I received my master’s in clinical mental health counseling (CMHC) from Denver Seminary. I have worked in leadership among other counseling professionals since 2014, and serve as the executive director at Alethia Counseling Center in Houston, Tx. I am a trauma-informed and EMDR trained therapist. My specialties include trauma, those who struggle with anger, and those who are skeptical if counseling can actually be an asset in their life.

What makes Alethia Counseling special?

We believe in walking with a client to finding just the right type of counselor, therapy, and fit for them. Finding good mental health help can be overwhelming, but from our office manager to our team of therapists, we make this process easy and seamless.

What made you want to become a Licensed Professional Counselor?

I am passionate about caring for the city of Houston. I believe in breaking down the barriers that so many people have in receiving incredible counseling care. These barriers include off-business hours, ability to meet people where they are at financially, and therapists that are gifted across the spectrum of mental health needs.

What are the advantages that come with owning your business?

One of the advantages of owning a business is that you get to adjust to the needs of those around you. There is a certain level of nimbleness and adventure that comes with being able to remake a business to better fit the people you are caring for.

What are your future goals?

We are becoming one of the premier counseling centers in the city of Houston. In 5 years we will be one of the best training facilities for counselors and other mental health professionals in the state of Texas. In 10 years we will have developed an entire modality of care for clients of every socioeconomic need. This will include a holistic apprenticeship and mentoring model for mental professional development that has rarely been accomplished in the United States.

What is your mission statement?

We exist to help our clients and our community experience abundant life through realizing and living in freedom and in truth and to raise up more counselors with the same mindset.

What are the biggest issues that you face?

Outside of the current pandemic, it’s the marketing side that takes a lot of time. When people meet our counseling tend team, they get very excited about what we offer.

How is your team structured?

Aside from myself, we have a team of counselors that include both part-time and full-time positions, and a full-time office manager.

Where can people learn more about your business?
