Jason, what is your background?

I have been in the industry for over 21 years. I started doing website design when I was 17. I started a small business while I was in high school doing web design and printing products. From there I went to Texas Christian University and studied e-business, marketing, and entrepreneurship. While at TCU I started a hosting company and worked for a technology services company. When I returned to Houston in 2007 I opened a company called iFrog. That venture worked on residential computers, small business networks, and web design. I sold that business in 2011 and went to the University of Houston for my MBA. At the University of Houston, I focused on studying Internet Marketing and competed with a team and won 1st place in a worldwide Google Adwords competition. After UofH I then worked for several different companies before opening up Site Ascension in 2015.

Why should a customer choose Site Ascension?

The reason to choose Site Ascension is due to our customer service, transparency, and research. Anyone can go and build a website these days. There are so many tools out there that help make building a website easy. The trick in creating a website is how to market it, and get that site in front of potential customers. Just because you built a website, that does not mean anyone can find it. There are 100’s of millions of websites on the market. How can your website cut through that clutter to rise to the top? That starts with research. You need to know the best practices of your competition, what main keywords are used, as well as, long-tail keywords. What’s the competition like for those keywords? You also need to know where your customers search to find a website like yours and how to design the website to influence your customers to take action. When you work with site ascension we use a lot of tools to give us insight on how to get your website in front of clients. We analyze the competition. We research keywords, schema practices, content, website behaviors, linking, and more. Every company is unique, your marketing strategies should be too. Additionally, we have a client tool that keeps you up to date with the work we have done and where your marketing plan stands.

What made you want to start an internet marketing business?

There are a lot of great companies that do Internet Marketing, but there is also a lot of fly by night companies as well. This makes people wary of the industry, as anyone can say they build and market websites. We have seen many companies come into the industry and use black hat tricks. These tricks work for a short minute and give you a boost. However, often Google finds out about them and then you are penalized in search for a long time. Also, I have always had a passion for small business. I want to help small businesses grow and succeed. Large Internet marketing firms are often cost-prohibitive for small businesses to use. So, I set out to start Site Ascension as a company with the goals to provide tools and exposure that large marketing firms give their clients for small businesses. We want to help small businesses compete on a large scale. I have formal and on the job education in this field. I and my team have the certifications and knowledge to help you succeed.

What are some of the advantages that come with owning your business?

I really only see one advantage to running your own business. That advantage is that you can run your business as you see fit. For instance, when I worked at other marketing firms I had to force-feed clients’ products or pitches. Rather if I believed in them or not. With Site Ascension, we don’t do that. We can customize solutions to our clients and we can operate in a manner that allows the best outcomes for our clients. It allows you to freely operate. Being able to run a business as I see fit is the main advantage.

Where do you see your business in the following years? 

Site Ascension will continue to grow and evolve and offer new products. This year in 2020, we began offering our clients reputation management. We will continue to build up certifications and partner with brands to be able to offer our clients the best options. Our long term plans are to finish building some custom software we have been tinkering with.

What is your company’s mission statement?

Site Ascension aims to provide quality SEM (Search Engine Marketing), Email Marketing, Social Media, Reputation Management, and Web Design services. We do not provide cookie-cutter solutions. We create an individualized solution for you based on analytics and research.

What are some of the biggest issues for running this business?

Our biggest issue is constantly trying out new products. This is very time-consuming. We want to make sure we offer our clients Best of Breed solutions. Therefore we are constantly testing products and playing with our own websites to learn information to help market our clients better.

Do you have employees?

Yes, at the moment we have 7 employees and 16 contractors that we work with. Each full-time employee has a specialization in an online marketing field such as Social Media, Content Marketing, Paid Marketing, SEO, Web Design, and Analytics.
