Hussein, what is your background?

I started by being a journalism major, I have a BA in journalism with a minor in Spanish and English. Then when I went to try to look for a job in broadcast journalism, I couldn’t find anything, so my uncle came to me with this amazing opportunity and I jumped on it.

Why should a customer choose T-Shirts Etc Katy?

I believe that we provide the best customer service, we have lower prices, and we also are minority and family-owned and operated. I’m with you every step of the way, you’re dealing with the owner, creator, printer, the whole 9 yards, and I feel people are more comfortable when they hear that.

How many years has your business been active?

Well my uncle has been in this business for over 30 years and before that my grandfather had it, I am just honored to keep the family business alive and running (and extending).

What are the biggest advantages that come with owning your business?

Some advantages are that you make what you put in, not always money, but the time and work you put in for and with your business will only benefit you in the long run. I think of the business like my baby, the more I spend time with it, grow with it, take care of it, that will only help and continue to grow.

What are your future goals for the company?

In the next 5 years I’m hoping to hire some employees, maybe open up another store, and become sort of a manager position where I get to oversee the day to day activities and spend my time doing other things like going out to get more business, attending breakfast and lunch meetings, going to big companies and trying to secure the larger orders, more of like a salesperson I guess.

What is your mission statement?

My mission statement is: here at T-shirts etc Katy we strive to do the very best work that we can with even better customer service. If you think it, we create it!

What are the biggest issues for running this business?

Some of the biggest issues I feel are being young, nobody gives me credit for knowing what I know, everyone would always look at my father and then he would turn to me saying, he knows the stuff, I’m just helping. Another big issue was the learning curve, before I got into this business I had no idea what it took to make T-shirts, I didn’t know what embroidery or screen printing was, but I was fortunate that my uncle took under his wing and taught me everything I know now.

How is your team structured?

Right now it’s only my dad and me, I take care of the emails, phone calls, customers, and the day to day operations, and my father takes care of the embroidery work and the backside of running the shop (billing, invoices, the paperwork)
